Soil Sampling and Testing

The process begins by taking soil (clay) samples from the field or ballast bed. These samples are analyzed in the laboratory, where a customized recipe is developed to ensure a solid and durable foundation, capable of withstanding heavy traffic and extreme weather conditions.

Recipe Implementation - Mixing Materials

Regardless of the chosen option, the mixture always includes soil (earth), sand (0–4 mm), gravel (8–16 mm and 16–25 mm), the GreenRoad A3.0. polymer, and water, ensuring a homogeneous and stable structure.Option 1: “In situ” mixing
On site, the existing soil (the road’s base material) is mixed with sand, gravel, polymer, and water using WIRTGEN mixing equipment. The aggregates (sand and gravel) are evenly distributed over the road surface and then mixed with the existing soil by the WIRTGEN machine, which simultaneously doses the GreenRoad A3.0.polymer diluted in water.Option 2: Mixing at the aggregate plant
When the road’s base material is not suitable, the mixing process takes place at the aggregate plant, using equipment such as the Vanguard RoadMix 3000 or Vanguard RoadMaster A3.0. The soil, sand, gravel, GreenRoad polymer, and water are precisely mixed. The resulting material is then transported to the site in dump trucks for application.

Transportation and Preparation

For the “in situ” option, only the aggregates are transported to the site, where mixing takes place with the existing road base material, the polymer, and water. In the aggregate-plant option, the fully mixed material is delivered directly to the site and spread evenly using an asphalt paver. In both options, the road surface is prepared in advance by removing the topsoil layer to ensure proper application.

Efficient Stabilization and Compaction

After mixing "in situ" with the WIRTGEN machine or after laying the prepared material in the ballast bed, the road is compacted in three stages: two passes without vibration and one with vibration, using an 18-20 ton compactor roller. GreenRoad A3.0. polymer is activated (reacts) only during the vibration pass, guaranteeing a durable, stable, waterproof and erosion-resistant structure.

Wear Layer and Road Markings

After the compaction is complete and the compacted material has completely dried, the wearing course is applied and the road markings are drawn. The road is ready for traffic opening the same day.

How does the construction of a traditional road compare to that built with GreenRoad?
In traditional road construction, a 60-65 centimeter depth is excavated, followed by compaction of the soil and the application of a stabilized ballast layer and an additional base. This base layer is then covered with a layer of asphalt, usually between 10 and 15 centimeters thick, which involves a high consumption of materials and natural resources. Instead, GreenRoad A3.0. revolutionizes this process.
No deep excavation is required.
After the vegetation layer is cleared from the road surface, the aggregates (sand and gravel) are applied directly, which are mixed in situ with the existing soil by specialized Wirtgen-type machines. At the same time, the machine doses and applies the GreenRoad A3.0. polymer according to the predefined recipe in the laboratory. The resulting base layer is only 20-25 centimeters thick and is covered with a layer of asphalt of only 4-5 centimeters, which significantly reduces costs and resources used, without compromising the durability and quality of the road.
